Vascular medicine
The revised Geneva score estimates the clinical probability of a pulmonary embolism based on standardized variables, without criteria such as "PE more likely than an alternative diagnosis". It complements clinical evaluation and integrates into a diagnostic strategy; it does not confirm a pulmonary embolism.

CLINICIAN SCORE
The two heart rate categories are mutually exclusive.
Are you patient?
This score is intended for the professional evaluation of suspected pulmonary embolism and does not replace urgent medical assessment in the event of concerning symptoms.
Terms of contract
The score is calculated by a healthcare professional during the initial assessment of a suspected pulmonary embolism; it was derived and validated in emergency department patients. Heart rate must be measured during this assessment—the two ranges being mutually exclusive—and the result is integrated into a diagnostic strategy that includes D-dimer testing and imaging where appropriate. Surgery under general anesthesia or lower limb fracture within the previous month. Active solid or hematologic cancer, or considered cured for less than one year.
Score interpretationGeneva revised
Weighted sum of the criteria present (1 to 5 points depending on the criterion, heart rate counted in only one category). Score from 0 to 22.

Score 0–3: low clinical probability.

10
Score 4–10: intermediate clinical probability.

Score ≥ 11: high clinical probability.
0–3: low probability; 4–10: intermediate; ≥ 11: high.
Thresholds are validated in specific populations and strategies; the pre-test probability remains a step, not the final diagnosis.
